What is the difference between the SERAFE and the GT12 fees?

SERAFE AG has been charging the household fee for media since January 1, 2019 and had replaced Billag. This fee finances the public radio and television stations in Switzerland. It must be paid for by all households and businesses.

The GT12 fee applies to private TV stations, which are mainly financed by advertising revenue and do not benefit from the household fee. These stations have lost important income through the increased use of Replay-TV. The new regulation covers these losses.

The SRG channels and the public stations such as ORF, ARD, ZDF, BBC, etc. are currently not part of the industry agreement and the advertising can still be fast-forwarded on these channels.
